Review: | I purchased this remote when my wife and I moved in together because she did not like having 7 remotes lying around the living room. Now for $50, this remote is worth every penny. While I did all the setup as far as programming was concerned, my wife had to be able to understand how to use it. I am happy to say that she is very comfortable using it to handle my entire home theater (Digital cable, TV, CD, Tape deck, VCR, DVD, and Receiver.) She could easily turn on and off any of these components. I was able to put all 7 of my other remotes away and use this exclusively.
The only thing that really bothered me was the fact that you could not punch through the volume controls. I dont use my TVs volume at all so the only way to hear anything is through the receiver (which is how everyone should have their system setup imho.) Switching to AUD then controlling volume then switching back to whatever component I was using gets pretty tedious after a while. I tried learning my receivers volume buttons to the volume buttons on the remote, but it wouldnt work. The macros were great, but I would have liked more. Like I said, for $50 this remote will replace all of your other remotes, you just have to get used to the little things like switching to AUD when you want to increase volume and such.

Review: | I took advantage of the radioshack $20 off sale, which just ended, and bought this remote. It was actually listed on the radioshack website as the RCU805, the 810's smaller, less advanced brother. When it shipped, I opened the box and found an 810 inside!!! This remote was an absolute steal at $59.99 canadian dollars!!
Anyways, I love this remote so far. It worked near flawlessly with the pre-programmed codes for:
Bell Expressvu dss receiver Panasonic superflat (gaoo) tv Yamaha dvd player Yamaha cd player
I also have a denon 2802 ht receiver. I was unable to make this work using the denon receiver codes, but it did work with the denon amp code.
This code provided VERY limited functionality. The only features that were labelled correctly were the on/off button and volume control.
I figured I would try and manually learn the denon features from its oem remote. What a snap! So easy to do, and I now have the 810 programmed with every feature that I use from the oem denon remote!! (about 16 buttons).
I then went and manually learned the denon's volume to the volume controls onto the SAT, DVD and CD devices of the 810.
I don't know how people are running out of memory, because I haven't run out yet and have programmed over 20 buttons.
I also made some macros which work wonderfully.
I have to give this great remote 2 thumbs up (especially at $60 canadian!). |
